"Fill That Void"
When we are still and shut out all of the noise from our daily activities, many of us will notice that we have a dull aching in our souls. It's just beneath the surface of our consciousness. And, I believe it's a God-shaped void that only He can fill. And when we aren't connecting with Him, our spiritual hunger and thirst just increase, leaving us unsatiated.
Now, the human thing to do is find something to eradicate this aching of our souls. So, we often turn to entertainment, food, alcohol, drugs, sexual indulgences, human relationships, the pursuit of fame, success, money and much more. When in fact, none of these things will permanently satisfy us.
The only thing that will quench our spiritual thirst is to drink from a spiritual water source. Jesus had an encounter at a well with a woman who exemplified the scenario described above. She was spiritually hungry and thirsty, but she kept trying to satisfy her longing with relationships. She had five husbands, and at the time of her encounter with Jesus at the well, she was living with another man who she wasn't married to. Having discerned her condition, Jesus said to her, ”But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.”
JOHN 4:13,14 AMP
